The objective of our programme is to train and develop people in leadership positions to be more effective as Christians. This means that they must be able to apply Christian ethics in all spheres of life. Although we are primarily concerned with the development of leadership responsibility in the church, it also means that leaders must be active in community involvement. As the salt of the earth and the light of the world, Christian commitment also serves and benefits their daily work.
We have received the positive influence of our training. Learning thus defined is more than merely inputting knowledge. It is a life-changing encounter with the living God. This reality means that our teachings are not only heard but also seen and experienced. The message of reconciliation with God and men has an important influence on inter-personal relationships and this is one of the aspects that we stress and develop throughout the programme.
The leaders of the AIC are men and women of realism and insight. They are leaders who understand that they need basic and continuous scriptural and theological training. This had been the reason why leaders of the AIC approached sympathetic Christians to assist them with a theological training programme. This resulted in launching of Project Timothy which commenced with the task of training the leaders of the AIC throughout Southern Africa.
Within two years this initial project had been changed into the Timothy Training Institute (TTI) with its training philosophy derived from 2 Timothy 2:2 " And the tings that thou has heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men (and women), who shall be able to teach others also!" We soon realised that God has given us a unique opportunity of reaching literally millions of souls. This opportunity calls for a fresh and innovative approach in training methodology. Timothy Training Institute embarked on a new and uncharted road in regard to traditional theological training methods.
We go to the students instead of asking them to come to us. For this purpose a mobile evening training programme was designed stretching over a minimum period of three years (Licentiate Level). The students remains in touch after the completion of his studies. This method has proved to be a resounding success. |
